Heron Bay Country Club, originally named TPC at Heron Bay, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Coral Springs, Florida.
Heron Bay first opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Mark McCumber.
Heron Bay opened as the centerpiece of a 1,500-acre development of truly upscale homes. Some might call them castles. Unlike most golf course communities golfers and the homes are all separated by large canals and lakes. The course itself is laid out over 240 acres giving it a completely different feeling from most golf course community developments. No squeezes and no tricked up holes, just 18 championship caliber holes winding along large waterways.
For six years (1997-2002) the PGA TOUR`S Honda Classic called Heron Bay home, crowning champions Stuart Appelby, Mark Calcavecchia, Vijay Singh, Dudley Hart, Jesper Parnevik, and Matt Kuchar.
During the Honda Classic Heron Bay`s roughs were grown and greens were sped up. These alterations helped accentuate the course`s most prominent feature, sand traps. While ten traps have been removed from the course in the past few years, Heron Bay still features over 100 obviously large bunkers.

I paid only $30 to play but that's because I have a Summer Discount Card. The regular weekday price is $55 in the summer and $90-110 in the winter. The greens had been airiated so they were a little sandy but still rolled pretty true. If you don't like sand traps this IS NOT the course for you. There are 90-100 traps, with the majority of them 40-50 yards long. Some are much larger.

This course is NO longer a TPC course. It is now Heron Bay Golf Club. I played it when it was a TPC course and it was maintained much better. The greens were aweful, the fairways were patchy and the bunkers were not raked.

TPC at Heron Bay was nice but I kept waiting to see something that would show me why this was a tour-level course. Granted I dont want to be challenged like a touring pro but for that price I was expecting something memorable.
I found none of the holes in any way exceptional. The course was in great shape, and it was not crowded at all so those were nice pluses. But for a former tour event course, I am, still trying to understand how this is up there with other courses I have played with similar PGA event pedigrees, and it just isnt in the same class. Nice track but unremarkable.

I played two afternoons here in concert with a golf clinic in late April 2017. The course is less than a block away from a nice Marriott. The greens were generally in good shape. Some fairways were in better shape than others, but certainly playable. While the bunkers are large and ubiquitous, most are waste bunkers and don't impede duffer play the way well-tended traps can. There's a large practice and putting range. The surrounds include beautiful landscaping, canals, birds everywhere, gators and McMansions. The pro shop is well stocked, and the bar serves really superior food from a limited menu.
